SYNOPSIS

silent House is the story of three generations of an Iranian family who live in a one-hundred-year-old house in Tehran. Through archival family footage woven with contemporary images, the two filmmakers, Farnaz and Mohammadreza, portray their family’s evolution across 40 years, from the 1979 Islamic Revolution until the present time. They follow each family member entangled in the tides of their country’s complicated history.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

Our family represents diverse phases of society. Each of them has had a challenge in his/her life, which we will follow in the film. We observe our family drift apart as the political world of the Middle East unfolds around them. Throughout the archival family footage including pictures, Super-8 and home movies, the film flashbacks to the darkest and most striking moments of our family’s lives, going back in history and evoking memories of the past to bring back the spirit of the house.

Director’s Biography:

Farnaz Jourabchian is an independent filmmaker & writer based between Tehran and Toronto. She received her BFA in Cinema from the Melhoppenheim School of Cinema, Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, and also her BA in French Literature from Tehran University. She made six "Award-winning" short documentaries films which have been presented in a number of international festivals worldwide.
